Reunited by a psychic, no less, they led a happy, horseback-riding and airplane-flying life until January 2008, when CT scans revealed a nearly three-inch mass on Patrick’s pancreas. Initially, they kept the diagnosis to themselves and didn’t even tell Patrick’s mom, who was recovering from eye surgery and wasn’t supposed to cry, but a tabloid reporter confronted her at her front door. Lisa effectively explains technical procedures such as PET scans, and she openly writes about how her husband emitted some awful-smelling burps and gas and about how he kept smoking. Sadly, Patrick’s cancer spread to his liver, and the toxins muddled his thoughts.
